The chargers CTEK D250S Dual and CTEK SMARTPASS, are an innovative line of professional battery chargers that offers a unique DIY dual battery system for alternative power and/or solar power that saves time and money. With the CTEK D250S Dual, vehicle owners are assured that their batteries always remain charged and ready to go as energy from the alternator and/or solar panels are used by the charger to provide power to all equipment connected to the vehicle, and also charge the vehicle’s batteries at the same time.
The CTEK D250S Dual has the additional benefit of an auxiliary input which can be connected directly to solar panels without the need for a regulator, offering free power from the sun. The solar cells produce power as efficiently as possible through the CTEK D250S Dual’s built-in Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) by taking the most efficient source of energy from the solar panels automatically, and then using the power to charge the battery.
The MPPT also enables the charger to seek the most effective combination of solar cell voltage and alternator current to maximise incoming power and minimise the time taken for a battery to be fully charged, allowing the battery to constantly remain at its maximum capacity. The CTEK SMARTPASS is a power management system that manages and distributes power produced from sources such as solar, wind, AC chargers, and alternators, directing regulated energy to equipment such as light bulbs, LEDs, navigational systems or other electronic equipment increasing battery output and minimising charge time.
The CTEK SMARTPASS ensures that service batteries will always have energy for critical items like navigation, radio and emergency light by disconnecting equipment that are less crucial in vehicle’s ability to perform core functions, such as the fridge, when the voltage on the battery drops.
The built-in Battery Watch technology in the CTEK SMARTPASS allows it to make full use of the majority of energy produced (up to 95 per cent) and distributes the power, servicing battery banks, bow thrust batteries and electrical equipment such as navigational systems. The CTEK SMARTPASS also ensures that service batteries are protected from being deeply discharged, providing batteries with an optimal service life and reducing the frequency and need for regular traditional charging, while protecting valuable electronic equipment from being damaged by high voltage by separating the current for charging and direct use purposes.
In addition, the CTEK SMARTPASS protects batteries from overheating current by sensing the battery temperature and reducing the current if it is too warm. The technology behind this is currently patent pending to CTEK. When combined, the CTEK D250S Dual and CTEK SMARTPASS provide even more advantages to vehicle owners. As an integrated system, the CTEK SMARTPASS manages the energy transfer through the CTEK D250S Dual, which then converts and produces the optimal voltage of 14.4V, even if the alternator only produces 14V.
